New Delhi, May 24: Most of the recent COVID-19 cases being reported across various Indian states are mild in nature, and patients are being managed at home, according to official sources. This comes amid a rise in infections in some other countries.
The Union Health Secretary reviewed the situation on Saturday in a high-level meeting with the Secretary of the Department of Health Research (DHR), the Director General of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the Director General of Health Services (DGHS), and officials from the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), sources said.
States such as Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Karnataka have reported a few COVID-19 cases recently. However, officials emphasized that India has a comprehensive national surveillance system in place to monitor respiratory illnesses, including COVID-19. This includes the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) and ICMR’s countrywide respiratory virus sentinel surveillance network.
